I read the list of treats and saw CHEERIOS listed. y hen wants cheerios broken in 1/2 before she will eat them - or s serve soaked in milk. Sssh! there are rumors my hen is a spoiled brat! LOL!

Or you can just add warm water and let it soak for a couple of minutes, it will make a mash. I do this with chick starter as it stops them scratching it out of the feeder, and helps keep them hydrated too.
Any body ever heard of the brand Home Grown? I'm in WI, I buy a bag every 2 weeks or so. and no where on the bag does it say pellets or crumbles. sometimes when i buy it i end up with this bag that is mostly dust, like the pellets got busted into a million pieces.
Ok, while posting this I called the feed company about the calcium (the bag says Do not provide additional grain or free-choice calcium source) just wondering if there's enough Cal. bag says min= 3.7% and max= 4.7% Enough?
I also called the feed mill to find out which they carry (the bag doesn't say what it is!) come to find out they ONLY carry the crumbles???
I'm so confussed!
ETA= Ok I went back and looked at those wonderful pics of crumbles and pellets, My feed store calls what I get crumbles however my feed looks like what you have pictured as pellets??? The feed store said what I have is crumbles and that pellets are around 1/2 in long????? I'm sooooo very confussed now????
I just wanted to add that it is possible for birds to choke and die from eating pellets or crumbles. I had a hen just up a die a couple months ago so I did a necropsy on her.
There was nothing unusual about her until I opened up her esophagus (sp?). I found a chunk of food stuck in the upper portion of her larynx, so she did in fact choke to death. Poo poo happens
hey guys my local tsc i thought only sold the layena pellets but to my suprise one day when i got home i had grabbed a bag of the grumbles , but it was no big deal , my birds eat both , and have no problems ...................... never had one choke either way and i have several ages and sizes all running together ................................
has anyone heard of pen pals brand , egg maker balancer , it is 20% , and i have recently switched to it from layena since it has more protien and to my suprise the pellets are even smaller than what i thought they would be .......... my tsc doesnt carry it but my local feed store does for 10.50 for 50lb bag and thought i would give it a shot , anyone ever try this brand and did you like it ?

i feed mine crumbles, i tried giving them pellets but my chickens are to snobby so they wouldn't eat it. pellets is better though cause it wastes less feed.

Maybe she had a heart attack while swallowing
I had a chicken die because i fed them too coures of cracked corn. When it went in to her crop it cut it open and she choked from the blood. so if you ever feed your chickens cracked corn make sure it is ground fine, not course.

i also use Home Grown, i live in CT, i think that crumbles are ground up pellets. although my feed store does carry both pellets and crumbles in the Home Grown brand.
