I was told, a long long time ago, that it was okay to have chickens in Bethany Oklahoma. After building a small coop and getting 4 chickens, I was told by a former member of the city council that we were only allowed 3 chickens per lot. I went online to our city ordinance and found that there was not a very clear or defined rule in reference to poultry other then keep the coops clean. Believe it or not. Today I have spoken with the city manager, the city ordinance enforcer and both of them said that we could have chickens so long as they do not become a nuisance to our neighbors. They had no other information but then referred me to the city animal control, who is the acutual enforcement division. The lady from animal control, loves chickens by the way, told me that our city never did have any rules about amount of poultry or rules governing roosters and the like. She said, "Get all you want." Just keep it clean and I may have to buy off annoyed neighbors with eggs if my one rooster is too loud.
