So I read about testing eggs in water to see if they're alive and so I did. I put them in water and waited for them to move. Only left them in for a few seconds. And they all moved but one sank :( anyways I read afterwords not to do this? The reason I did is because the temp got up really high because someone left the door open on a hot day. This is day 17 do you think I hurt or killed them by doing this?

I don't know. I read not to do that though.

We really had a very hot day for over 24hrs. The coop temp did not go under 84 all night. I think I lost 2 or 3. I'm not positive and I'm waiting it out. I candled and I can see 3-4 are doing very well for sure by candling. I'm using a broody.

Good luck!

Sorry to say that might have drowned them :( I lost an egg in the heat too so I moved the broody to the basement where it's cooler. The best way to tell if an egg is alive is to hold it up to a bright light in a dark room (called candling) and look for movement in the shell.

I'd keep them to see if they hatch. Your almost there anyways.

Please keep us updated.
