Hello everyone; This forum came up while I was researching coop designs. I've started down the path of raising laying hens and am trying not to make any mistakes or at least minimize the mistakes, keep costs down and hopefully not create a hazard for the hens.

I'm looking forward to participating here.

Hello and welcome to BYC. Good luck with your coop build :fl

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - Find Your State Thread

Best wishes

Howdy from another Texan and welcome to BYC! I doubt you can muck up building a coop in our region unless you make no plans for inclement weather. In my case mine needs to survive some level of hurricane force winds, but pretty much everywhere in Texas you can expect 100mph outflow from any random thunderstorm over a 5 year period. So please consider planting those post holes at least 3 foot deep with a solid concrete base.

We have a Texas thread if you haven't done so already please give us a howdy! https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/texas.44/page-4279#post-19598864

Greetings and welcome to BYC! There are thousands of coop pictures and stories of coops costing nothing up to thousands of dollars! I'm sure you'll find something hat meets your needs. So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
