Checking in from Oregon , making my first post here.

Wife and the girls (9yo and 14) decided they want to try their hand with chickens so so googling led me here.

Figure I'd spend several hours reading up on some of the basics to get ready, things lined up and a coop of sorts.

Just happen to have an older, sad 8x10 shed that I was going to take down and rebuild as a shed but now thinking I'll convert as it stands to a coop ( will get a thread started on that in the future).

Wife and girls will be attending a little intro to chicken class at the local feed shop later this month also.

Thinking this might end up being fun.

Thanks

Chris

Hi, Chris, welcome to BYC, and good luck with the coop build and in establishing your new flock. You are right, this can end up being a lot of fun. It looks as if you are planning and preparing. Click on 'The Learning Center' located at the top of the page and study the forums. Question away, and you will be set to go.

Using your existing shed as a coop is a good way to go, sheds can make great coops. If you have any questions about it, you can ask here:

I think you're a good candidate for future chicken lover, lol. So many are surprised by how much personality chickens have (I know I was) and how interesting/fun they are to raise.

Good luck to you & your family on this adventure!

Hi Chris and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I too, converted my garden shed into a coop - works just fine and dandy! Enjoy your family chicken keeping adventure - I'm sure you will grow to love it!

All the best
