Checking on Kansas city members

Just wondering how our friends in the Kansas City area are doing. I am seeing people on roof tops in Kansas City on the news and am hoping all, including their chickens and other pets/livestock are all okay. Just shows we all need an emergency plan for our animals. Here in New Orleans we are preparing a 2nd story laundry room in case we need to house our hens there, as we may be getting severe flooding in the next week. Please let us know how you are doing, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Also please let us know how you handled protecting your animals, as I think we all need a plan and can learn from what others have done that has or has not worked, or what their plans are just in case the need arises. Good luck to all in that area, especially with FEMA. Hope things get better from New Orleans, where we truely feel your pain.

All good here, just very wet basements and waterlogged yards in my neck of the woods. Waters only got ankle deep and moved on by morning. The chooks did great in their coop, I'd built it on blocks anyways so they stayed bone dry while we spent hours bailing out the basement. I gave up after shop-vacuuming 200 gallons of water, there was just no stopping it.

We asked for some rain, but I guess we all asked too hard. 10 inches is too much, and the storms haven't been gentle this year at all.

Sorry you are having to go through the clean up process. I know that is hard, disheartening work, good luck with that, hopefully you have friends, family and neighbors who can help. That just helps keep the spirits up as well as making the clean up easier and faster. So glad the chickens faired well. Check into what is available as far as financal aid is concerned, your taxes helped me and many others in 2005, I would hope my taxes can help you now.
