We have on chick that cheeps a lot. All the time. I see it eat, drink, and normal poop. Everything seems fine, we have appropriate heat and he will lay out under the lamp or go to the heat plate or heat pad...we have large enough area to do this, and some of the smaller ones still needed the heat lamp.

Anyways, the chick seems fine. To me I am thinking it is a rooster. Just now getting pinfeathers on wings and that looks male as does the little tail feathers. I haven't held them unless needed to but this morning I cuddled him up under my neck and he settled in content. Are roosters more chatty from the start? He seems to want everyone around him and then cheeps in a soft little rhythm. I can't find anything wrong with him otherwise. He is on the smaller side of the rest of them (total 12)

It's all just "old wives tale" but in my experience, the boys can definitely be more whiny, needy and are usually criers. Generally, at my house, that means they just need held or snuggled with to keep the quiet, but others may have tips besides snuggling or letting them cry it out

I love tis because right now he curled up against my neck and quite happily so. Hubby and I just said they are all babies and need some mothering. They are super friendly chicks. He is a French Blue Copper Marans. We just Christened him Warwick Davis because of his size. We have fallen in love with him.

Edited: put him back into the brooder and he ran over to eat, cheeping the whole way. Maybe Chatty Cathy if a hen. Lol

We joke that it's how they trick us! Nobody WANTS to keep roosters but they always end up your favorite because they need some extra loves and snuggles 🥰

We have 6 straight run Fr Coopers and 6 female Alchemist Blues. We do want to keep one rooster and I have several local flock keepers wanting a rooster for their flock. The problem is I love them all and will hate to see them go but know we only need one. Lol
