Chestnuts?

I've got 6 2 week old chicks. I'm make a tractor style coop and run for them.... Hopefully it will be light enough to move. We hope when they are big enough to free range them while we are home. One thing I was wondering is are chestnuts safe if they find them. We have a few chestnut trees on our property. My concern is not just the nut but the shell is very spikey and those quils hurt. Anyone have experience with this?

I wouldn't feed it at all.

If they eat them (they are large) I wouldn't worry.
