Ok-so when one of our older girls died we went and picked up some more chicks to replace her(33 more to be exact

) most of them are BOs, a few of them are mutts. A majority of them are around 8 weeks old, but we also bought some 4 weekers too because they were so cheap ($2 each). Everyone is doing great except for a freebie we got. The lady we bought the chickens from said she found this little chick laying out in the yard after a night of rain. She told us we could have him but she was fairly certain he probably wouldn't make it through the night. So everyone else is outside and this little one is in a box with a heat lamp still. Still alive, eating, drinking, ect. It's issues are that it is very hesitant to stand and walk. It will walk to the feeder and waterer but it will lay down to eat or drink. It also appears that its breathing is a little labored. I have been taking this little chick out for about an hour everyday so it can free range with everyone else and it eats bugs and grass and such, but it will do the same outside as it does in the box, get up, move a couple of inches, then lay down and continue eating. I have seen no improvement what-so-ever. But it has not gotten worse either. To be honest I'm not even sure that its a chicken (she also had bronze turkeys mixed in with her chickens). Any idea what the problem could be? It's legs look fine and I could not pin point where the issue could be coming from. The little chick is yellow, looks like its wearing dark brown eyeliner, a dark brown splotch on the back of its head, dark brown wings and grey feet. Is there anything you would recommend I could do to improve this little babys quallity of life? Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Unfortunatly no, our computer is still new and I haven't figured out how to get my camera to work with it yet. But my mother the computer geek is coming over tonite so maybe that can be remedied.....

You could also try to give it some yogurt mash. Mix yogurt with some water and then mix some of it's food to make it soft. Also, polyvisol (no iron) 2 drops on the side of it's beak. email dlhunicorn to see what she thinks or some others will probably have something more you could do. I'm still new at this but hope this helps.

Oh - poor little thing. It's really kind of you to help the little fella.

From your description, sounds like an easter egger with the eye liner, spot on head and grey legs that may turn greenish.

Since the little thing got left out in the rain, maybe it's having respiratory issues that is causing it to be weak.

I'm sorry that I don't have any advice other then keep up what your doing and hope that is gets stronger.

It's a good sign that it is eating and drinking.

Best of luck
