chick born with eye problem, help? suggestions?

We purchased several new hatchlings today, the guy offered to give us one that had what he thought was "part of the shell" stuck on its eye...the poor thing looks so pitiful. It to me looks all matted up and draining badly. What can I do to help it? I have it on medicated food and oxytricycialine. (spelling??) Should I try to wash it with warm water?
