Here's a video of one of my chicks. Watch the little yellow chick with the stripe down her head and back.

The weird behavior is this:
  • Seems to raise her head when eating (beginning of video)
  • Tries to pick food from the beaks of the other chicks
She does a little eating in this video. I've seen her peck at the crumble dust sitting on the edge of the plastic of the food container. She's drinking well. I saw her poop once (right before video) and it was watery. She's generally very active and curious. I've had the chicks for 4 days, and everyone is healthy, eating, drinking, and active.

Any thoughts? Is she just weird?

Mea culpa for the dirty paper towels. Went in there to clean up, but got distracted.

Normal it ate a bigger crumble but went to drink after. It's okay. Very cute babies..

LOL! She's been a character from the get-go. I went back to change paper towels and watched her eat, and she was doing the normal gobbling. Others came around, and she started picking at their beaks again.

Thanks! They are adorable at this age. I get mesmerized just watching them. It's like a chick-induced meditation.

Bahahaha....:gig
Definitely no worries it just is learning what it can actually swallow and being a piggy trying...:frow

Picking at food bits that are on another birds beak is how they learn what is edible or not. Normally, they would be doing this with the mother hen. You will also see the same behavior if you wet the point of a pencil or even your finger and get some food stuck to it. They will investigate and pick off bits to try.

The weird thing is that she's been eating nicely for 4 days, and now she wants to taste stuff on everyone else's plate. <grin>

I pray for her to stay healthy, because I cannot wait to share time with her and watch her antics. I think she's going to be a lot of fun.
