Hi! I had five chicks hatch today from eggs I collected from my aunts coop. She has a several roosters who could be the fathers, they seem to be polish X polish as the eggs were white and the chicks seem to be polish chicks. However, a few of my aunts polish have an extra toe but most do not. I have read several breeds like silkies will have a fifth toe but these are not silkies or any other five toe breeds are in her flock. Is it possible a silkie was related to one of the past polish chickens they owned and its five toe genes are strong enough to have all three polish chicks have a fifth toe!? Or is it just backyard chicken inbreeding? No other chickens I’ve hatched from her farm have ever had this so three chicks with it seems statistically rare. Any thoughts?

Genetics lined up just right...perhaps at the result of a bit of inbreeding.
We raise silkies and this is exactly why every couple years I either buy silkie hatching eggs on eBay or go find a breeder and buy a few silkie chicks. The last thing I want is anything but 5 toes. ☺️
