I just got my 10 BR chicks in on Tuesday and have them in a 22" x 22" box until I have the coop ready for them (probably this weekend). So far they have been doing great, just peeping around like chicks do with the occasional peck at each other, but then when I checked on them today at lunch 2 or 3 the chicks were just ruthlessly pecking a one chicks toe and had it all bloody!! At first I just tried chasing the others away and letting the one chick sit down as it seemed tired out from all the harassing but the little buggers were like attack chickens and would just come flying back for more. So I pulled him out and dipped his foot in peroxide and have it separated in a little box inside the big box with one other chick that doesn't seem interested in his feet.
Is this common? And will it stop when I put them in the out in the coop where the have more room 4' x 5'6"

The little chick that was so cute yesterday wasn't so cute when it was dragging it's sibling by it's bloody toe.

This can be normal for chicks to do at a young age if they don't have a red lamp bulb in there brooder, even though they usually peck at the eyes. Try the red brooder lamp and see how that goes

I'll try the red light however I won't be able to get it until tonight so it will just have to survive until then. What is it about the red light that makes that makes them not peck?
Right now I have it separated with one other chick that doesn't peck it (it likes to look up??

it just walks around tipping it's head from side to side looking up, maybe it's the hen that said the sky was falling.)
