Chick has been peeping in egg for 24 hrs with no pips yet.

I have a chick inside an egg that has been peeping since yesterday morning. It has not started piping the shell yet, just rocks the egg and peeps. We are at 20 days but I'm concerned that it will run out of air. How long can it breath in the air cell before it NEEDS to make that first pip?

I don't know the answer to the specific question you posed, but I do know that as long as you hear it peeping, it's okay. I've had eggs that peeped, unpipped, for two whole days.

Every time that happens to me, I swear I will never touch it again,but I do and I always regret it. My suggestions is to leave it alone. At 20 days, it may just be very vocal about his grand entrance

the chicks will bust throuhgt there air sack up to 3days before they hach i would not wory some times i can here pipiing for 2 or 3 day before they pip the egg shell
