I am a new chicken raiser!! I have 2 aracaunas and one has a little cut on her leg where her shank meets her hock. The other chick seems to pick on her a little bit but doesn't seem to be focusing on that spot. I cleaned it with warm water, but don't know if I should try hydrogen peroxide or neosporin. She seems to be eating fine and drinking and bopping around without any difficulty. Do I need to separate the two of them? Any advice would be welcome, as a first timer, I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Hi and

sounds like you have it under control washing it and putting some neosporin with out pain relief is fine. but watch the other chick they are drawn like magnets to wounds and will make one worse in no time. Do you have blue-kote? they carry it at most feed stores and TS. it's very inexpensive and is great for healing and to cover up the ouch. which helps to keep the other chicks from pecking. Just be aware that it makes everything it touches purple. so be sure to wear old clothes and gloves of some kind when using. Have you found out what caused it in the first place? chickens are amazing healers and she should do fine as long as the other chick leaves it alone.. keep us up to date on how she is..

Thanks! She seems to be much better and her sister never really picked on her too much. I appreciate your help!
