This is odd, but we hatched chicks and the all black chicks hatched from a pink egg laid by our Asian blacks and this penguin colored chick hatched from a brown egg our RIR laid... But this chick isn't a RIR... So what it is? Our rooster was of unknown breed

See I considered that but our eggers and Asian blacks hatched and looked like their mom's as chicks so these RIR-ish chicks not looking remotely close has me questioning everything lol
I'm not quite sure what you mean.
It won't look exactly like its mom because its dad was a different breed. The ABs have dominant black, so their chicks will be black.
@Amer or @EmmaRainboe can probably explain better.

I get what you mean! I was hoping for some more red chickens but looks like our rir will be the only

Black covers well, but the chick may have some mahogany leakage. I agree with Odder. The chicks won't look exactly like their mom OR exactly like their dad. That's what happens when you have mixed genetics in your flock.

I'm hoping It's a hen it'll be interesting to see which color egg it lays!
