One chick just hatched with some insides outside. I've gutted a few birds in my time but not sure what's hanging out. It's red, round, and big. There's a bright green spot on it (gall bladder?) but the mass doesn't look like a liver. I searched and the only other thread I found was with intestines hanging out. I'll try get a pic and post.

I wound up wrapping some saran wrap around the mass to keep it moist and put her on a paper towel back in the incubator. Took the new chicken-protector-in-training out for a while and when I came back, the incubator had blood and yellow liquid everywhere. I did read about unabsorbed yolk sacs but what was hanging out definitely looked like actual organs, though which I'm still not sure. She was bleeding everywhere, even flung some in my face with her feet, and totally was in pain so I culled the poor thing. For anyone reading this, breaking the neck doesn't work on their ultra-flexible necks so I don't recommend that method. I tried 3 times and heard a snap at least once but she was still breathing and alive. I had to put her on the chopping block. At least there she got to feel sunshine and smell the trees and the ocean on her way out.
