Red ranger chick approx 5 days old, showed symtoms starting today, can't walk head down, was in with another red ranger and a jersey giant chick all appox. same age, other 2 are now showing any symtoms, eating non medicated crumbles (chick starter), was on pine shavings, tries to get up but flops around and falls back down. any suggestions as to what this problem might be. I have seperated it from the others now.

No its legs appear to be fine looks like its sleeping with head down tilted to one side when it gets up it cant keep its balance just flops around, I put the 2 red rangers in with the jersey giant so it would have some company, they were together a few days and this morning the one red ranger was showing these symtoms. thanks

Sounds like genetic wry neck to me too, go on youtube and search on there, see if any of the videos look like your chick. I have a fully formed hen with a twisted neck, but I'm pretty sure it is due to nerve/muscle damage at vaccination. She eats, drinks and lives perfectly happy now, infact she's head hen! I think, not sure but some vitamin B might help it a little. i think it's vitamin B anyway, could be E.

Could also be that the others that it was in with have been pecking at the head, I understand this can cause it too, particularly bad in silkies because of the formation of the skull. I don't know whether red rangers have the same type of skull though.

~~jo~~
