My 10 week old chick was just attacked by a hawk about 20 minutes ago. I heard it and ran to the rescue. Once I scared the hawk off, she ran for cover with the rest of her sisters. She lost a bit of blood. I currently have her separated and inside the house. How do I care for the wound and how long should I keep her separated?

Initially, it would be good to clean the wound with either Hibiclens and water or Betadine. You can spray Vetericyn or saline on the wound twice a day followed by a coating of plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment. Polysporin or bacitracin is fine as well, whatever you have. Are there any puncture wounds? Most head and neck wounds from pecking look pretty bad, but they will usually heal. It takes time for the skin to grow back if the skull is visible.

Do you have any pictures? How does the chick act? Is is awake, lethargic, able to stand and walk? Keep it separated until the wounds are mostly healed. But later you can let it visit with flock members with a cage or fencing separating it.
