I have one chick from my hatch and its in a brooder cage in a small shed outside. But im afraid rats might get in. Can they fit in the cage. Should I put my dog in the shed will my dog keep rats away if I do. My dog is a boxer cross, and would not hurt chick

Yes mice/rats have the potential to get in. Depends on what the wire is. If mice/rats are a problem, you will also have to deal with snakes. The chick feed will attract the rodents, rodents attract snakes. Hard to say about the dog. I would not depend on him, nor would I trust him to not harm the chick. They may be buddies when the chick is older. I would try to make the cage more rodent proof. 1/4" hardware cloth is often used. I also wouldn't leave it on the floor/ground.
