I just picked up some beautiful silkie chicks this weekend (8 weeks old). All seem healthy & happy, however one of the chicks holds it's head similar to a flamingo - it's beak is always tucked right up to it's neck. She walks around and holds her head up but it is still "folded" and when she sleeps she curls her head right around so she's practically sleeping on her head.

Like I said - she gets around - I haven't noticed if she's been eating or drinking as I check them early in the morning and then later in the evening when I get home from work - I guess tomorrow I'll wait around to see if she's actually eating/drinking - as in order to drink she'd have to pick her head up.

But has anyone had a chick do this before? - I thought maybe she pulled a muscle or something when the people caught her to put her in the box? but that was saturday.

might do a search for wry neck, silkies have a vitamin deficiency problem, a couple drops of poly vi sol on the tip of the beak daily for a week might correct it, the other problem is they can get head injuries easy, but the vitamins i would try first. they can be got at walmart in the infant section of the pharmacy, they are liquid vitamins for babies, get the kind without the iron though.

Thank you for the lead!

I did google it - there isn't too much (just seems like one video of the same chick). However now I'm worried as it seems that there is a long list of health problems it could be also.

I'll call my vet tomorrow too and see if they might know something about chicks. and look for those drops at the drug store...

She's under a heat lamp with her sister's and no one seems to be picking on her - so I guess that's a good sign.

I'll try to get some pictures or a video tomorrow. the video I saw online has the neck kind of go sideways and down - where my chick really brings her beak right down to her breast - almost as if she's trying to hide. (she also likes to be at the bottom of the huddle pile - she'll weasel her way under the others).
