Hi I post Thursday about my 6 week old chicken walking funny and not eating. I was told to treat for being over heated well it’s Sunday and she’s still walking weird. Does eat and drink but not as much as I would like her too. She’s motivated and is trying. She’s walking a lot better than she did , now she’s kinda waddling to get around. I don’t know what could be wrong.

Has she been pooping normally since then? When she walks is she resting back on her hocks? I'd get her on a B complex or super B complex tablet or capsule daily. 1/4 to 1/2 of one daily. You can mix it in a small bit of moistened feed that she will eat. Sometimes vitamin deficiencies can cause symptoms like this, riboflavin particularly.

Eating exactly what?
Which feed do you use?
What extras/treats have you been giving?

Well this week I ended a bag and told my husband to get some more chick starter and he told me the last big he got was laying feed. We put in a container and I didn’t know so I’ve been giving fermented laying feed. We recently just switched over to chick start on Monday. We have laying hens and he thought they all ate that. And I give cold Romain lettuce and black sunflower seeds to my chicks.

Layer feed has too much calcium for chicks, so I would get it back on a starter/grower for now. If all of them are together, then your hens are fine on starter/grower until the chicks are old enough to switch, just put oyster shell in a separate feeder for your hens, they will take what they need.

I just hope

Thank you , I am providing oyster shell for my laying hen. I feel terrible that I didn’t ask. But I also notice that her crop is sitting to the side I’ve never noticed that with any other chicken. I did give her some b12 and with her food. She ate a little , I will try again in the morning.

Are you sure that's the crop? What does it feel like, hard, soft, like air or fluid? Did this chick start out normally after hatch? Did you hatch it, or was it purchased/shipped?
I think I can see the same spot in your second picture (?), it kind of looks like it's the shoulder where the wing should attach or just above that? I'm wondering if it's a deformity. Was it always this way? In that same picture, second, I think I see the crop on the opposite side in front, and the keel bone also seems to be off center, but it may just be how it's positioned in the picture. Chicks that are malpositioned in the egg can be hatched with deformities from that. I had one a couple of years ago that was malpositioned, had to be assisted to hatch, the keel bone was very abnormal and shaped like a C.

I got eggs and hatched them. Every rung was fine while she hatched. She was running around just fine until Thursday morning when I found her. I pick her up right after the picture and felt , it’s her crop.

Does it feel like only food in there? Do you see the other lump in your picture on her left front? What does that feel like?
If that is the crop, it's not in the right place, and I've no idea why it would be there other than deformity. Does the crop ever empty? Try to feel it first thing in the morning before she's had access to food or water, see if it's smaller then. If she's pooping normally, then the crop should be going down. If it is a deformity, and that's hard to know from a picture, then sometimes chicks that have one will have more, some not obvious. So more may be going on inside, it's just very hard to know. I would examine her and feel for any skeletal abnormalities that may not show up with just a visual check, compare with one of the others that is healthy. She could possibly have ingested something she can't pass, but droppings would usually look different. I'm a bit stumped.
