In the last few days my chick has just been standing still with her mouth open, I've been feeding her and giving her water but now her eyes are closed completely, she seems to have some scar on her eyelids, she doesn't want to move and she doesn't eat or drink, this all came out of nowhere. What do I do?!?!?

I'm really sorry to hear that your chick is not feeling well. Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Isolate the Chick: If you have other birds, keep her separate to prevent any potential spread of illness.
  2. Check the Environment: Make sure she is in a warm, comfortable place away from drafts. Temperature is crucial for chicks.
  3. Hydration: If she’s not drinking, try to gently offer water using a dropper or syringe. Dehydration can be serious.
  4. Look for Signs of Injury or Illness: Examine her for any signs of injury, swelling, or other abnormalities besides the scar on her eyelids.
  5. Consult a Veterinarian: It's important to get professional help as soon as possible. A vet specializing in birds can provide a proper diagnosis and treatment.
  6. Avoid Stress: Keep handling to a minimum to avoid stressing her further.
  7. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in her condition, including behavior, droppings, and any other symptoms.
Please seek veterinary assistance as soon as you can, as they will be able to provide the best care for her.

How old is she? Do you know if she was pecked by the other chickens because she was ill or being bullied. Or could she have a respiratory disease, which may cause swelling of the eyelids and discharge from the eyes? Do you have mosquitoes out which may have carried fowl pox virus, and scabs in the face? Can you get some more clear pictures of the face? Are there bubbles or gunk in either eye? There looks to be a blister on the right eyelid. Can you hold some water and mushy wet chicken feed up to her beak, since she cannot see to get them? What do her poops look like? Is there any diarrhea or blood in her poops? What do you feed her?

You might also try a hot compress on her eyes, also look for other threads where people had similar problems! Make sure she continues eating and drinking!

  • 🧼 Moist Method: Moisten a clean washcloth, fold it, and place it in a resealable plastic bag. Microwave for 30-60 seconds, then seal the bag carefully. Use it on the affected area. source
  • 🌀 Dry Method: Wrap or fold towels into a bundle, and heat in a microwave for two minutes, ensuring it's warm and not too hot to touch. source
