I've got a 5-6 week old chick that is pooping blood. I saw it in my coop a few days ago but didn't know which chicken it was. Today I saw it was my littlest guy. It is more blood than anything else, to me almost all blood. She is still eating and drinking fine. What could it be?? I'm new to chickens so I have no idea...Please Help!!

Sounds like it could be coccidiosis.

I give Corid for coccidiosis (in the cattle section of the feed store) - it comes in powder too.

I give the Corid 9.6% liquid- 9.5 ml per gallon of water as the sole drinking water for 5 days. The bloody poo goes away for me within 24 hours. I mix a new solution daily, and if the bloody poo comes back after the 5 days is up, I give another 5 days.

It is best to treat all the chickens who have been exposed to the poo of the sick one.

There are 9 strains of cocci, and resistance is always a possibility. And of course if it is a bacterial problem, the Corid won't help.

If the bloody poo doesn't go away with the Corid, that would be worrying and you would want to reevaluate carefully.
