Help!!! I need advice??? Should I be worried? What should I do? My chick was born about 2 hours ago and is still struggling and it keeps going very weak! What could this be?
Thankyou!!!!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Prior to hatch they absorb their yolk sac through that umbilical area so sometimes it can look a little swollen. The umbilical area does look a little open still so I would pop a bit of antibiotic cream on and get it back into the incubator to dry off and fluff up. At 2 hours old the chick will still be extremely tired from hatch and not able to walk quite right. They tend to bumble around for quite a while untill they have rested and learnt to walk. What you have described sounds completely normal for a post hatch chick.

Good luck with your chick, it sure is cute :love

Glad you joined us! Ditto what Yorkshire Coop said above. The chick will be fine in a few hours, just watch that navel area.

Aww....poor baby. I do agree with the above posters. Also, keep the baby a bit warmer than the others for the next day. A few degrees warmer than the others can make a world of difference in the time it takes to heal.

Good luck with your babies and I hope this little one makes a full recovery!!
