Question: I have 8 chickens and I got two new ones last year. The two hens are inseparable. One of them just decided to go broody and just hatched 4 chicks. The other hen seems like she doesn't want to leave her. She won't go out in the yard with the other chickens. She sits outside the cage where I have the hen and chicks. She almost acts like she is sick. Have you ever heard of this? Should I be concerned about her?

I wouldn't be too worried about your hen. I had a roo who did this when his hen was broody. She just wants to be with her and can't. She should eventually get back to her regular routine

Chickens can form some strong attachments to each other.

Sounds like your hen just doesn't want to leave her pal.

Prehaps she is also broody?
