Chick, or not chick, that is the question

I woke up in the middle of the night for some reason wondering when a chick can no longer be called a chick. At what age does a chick become a pullet, or a chicken? I often wake up with odd questions rattling around in my head!

I think

chick until sex is determined?
pullet is a female under the age of one
hen is female over 1 year old.

Good post! I had been wondering this too. I have some cows and a female is a heifer until her 1st calf is born then she becomes a cow. I related chickens the same way as chick then pullet once sexed then hen once 1st egg is layed. Goes to show ya, every critter is different.
