Hello, everyone! I'm a newbie at raising chickens. The feed I've been using is Hubbard Developer, non-medicated food. The chicks (who are 4 weeks old today) seem to like it but it is so full of dust which seems like a waste. I live in York County, Pennsylvania, and am wondering what starter-grower feed has worked best for folks?

We've used Purina Flock Raiser (for chickens, turkeys, and all fowl) in the green bag, and
th
also Start 'n Grow (I think) also by Purina which I believe is chicken specific. Start 'n Grow also comes non-medicated, which is in the yellow bag.

Our local feed store gives 4-H kids a 10% discount on Nutrena brands so this year we've used these
th
. The first bag I buy is the medicated one. After it's gone, I switch to non-medicated. We're in our 4th year with the chickens now.

I think whatever you choose to use is probably fine.

Thanks! My chicks liked the Hubbard "Developer" but I think they only make the crumbles and it seems like that "powder" that's in the bag is wasted. Don't know if they eat the dust part or not. Thanks for your suggestion!

oh they'll eat the powder alright. In fact my husband babies the brand new chicks by running the crumble through the food processor so it's more fine. He feels they can eat it better that way. LOL
