OK I live in the boonies, we have one feed store close by. Up til about a month ago they were still selling chicks. Now when I went to buy chick starter they tell me, "Oh we don't carry that anymore, "chick season is over"

So long story short we drove 80 miles to our old feed store and bought 100# of "chick starter". This stuff has cracked corn in it!!
Can my babies eat it? They are 6 days old, they don't get grit yet. What to do??

Anybody? Please?

They will likely pick and peck and avoid the pieces they cannot handle. Yes, they sell chick grit, but really, if you've some sand on the property, you can put a little of that in with their feed too.

If you end up with a feeder full of bigger bits they are ignoring, I'd not waste that. I dump the feeder into a bucket and save it. Keep it dry and when they are 8 weeks old, they'll likely gobble it up. You just gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes.

it may not be the very best of stuff, but walmart sells chick starter in the garden section by the horse, goat,&pig
