My 6 day old chick was stepped on by my daughter while she was out on our kitchen floor. Since then (s)he's favoring her right leg. I've felt for breaks but don't feel anything out of the ordinary, and it looks The same as the left when I turn her over. The leg seems to be slightly more out to the side than the other when she stands , so not sure if it's maybe a deslocation? I can't see any swelling though either but this is my first time. She's the only hatchling, but we're expecting ducks to hatch any day. She's eating and drinking and seems otherwise fine.
Current brooder is a plastic tote with pine shavings. 15246938123072032272591.jpg 15246938496661945548576.jpg 1524693977939536567260.jpg

I would make it a chick chair or sling with food and water right in front of it. The middle picture looks a little like it might have a dislocation or a slipped tendon. Sometimes swelling can make an injury look worse. I would try resting the leg for a day or so, and go from there. Here is a link for chcik chairs and slings for bigger ones:

and another one with small ones:

That didn't work. I think I spent a total of 3 hours on 2 different types of chairs and no matter what I did, the chick kept getting her feet out, or her nails caught, and by the time it was over I'm pretty sure I did more harm than good.
What's the worst that can happen if I just leave the poor thing alone to "heal" as long as she's eating & drinking?

If the ducks hatch while she's still hobbling do I need to separate her? And if so, how long?
Thanks!

I would really try to find her a chicken companion... and not raise her with the ducks.

When chickens and ducks are raised together then they think they are the same species, the male ducks try to mount the female chickens and the female chickens get seriously injured or killed.

If they are raised separately then later on they can usually be put in the same coop without issues.

If she can get around... hopefully it is just a sprain and will heal on its own.

Last fall I dropped a chick then accidentally kick it a cross the room when I bent to pick it up his leg was injured but I could not locate where. He kept favoring it and it was sticking straight out this was when he was in the brooder in the house. Well time came to move the chicks out so he went with them. He could not walk up the gang plank into the hen house so for about 3 day I would take him out of the house then at night I would put him back in the house. On day 4 when DH and I decided that he wasn't getting better and something needed to be done. I went into the coop and couldn't find the chick, I turn around and he was already out in the run with the other chicks running around like nothing had ever been wrong with his leg. Long story short (too late) all he need was the space to exercise his leg.

I would leave it and maybe It will straighten it self out.
