Hi, everyone. I picked up some chicks yesterday at Rural King, and one of them has not done well since I brought her home. I put vitamins and electrolytes in their water. I dipped her beak in water a couple of times. She just stands there looking droopy. I did dip her beak in sugar water a few times, and she did start to move around quite a bit but still looked droopy. I dipped her beak in egg yolk and got some in her but not much. This morning I put a tiny bit of Nutridrench on a little bit of canned cat food, and it looked like she ate a tiny bit bit but willing. I’m at a loss. I don’t know if I’ve don’t enough, and I’m concerned she’ll just end up dying. Should put her down, or could there possibly be hope? TIA

Do you have a warm heat source for them and have you tested the temperature? Is it possible the wee fellow is cold? The electrolyte in their water is a good start! :)

Look at her vent or butt for any stuck poop, which can be common in baby chicks. Clean it off to keep the vent open. Some chicks from feed stores may suffer from shipping stress, or not getting enough water or food. Keep trying to get her drinking fluids. Give a drop or two of the Poultry NutriDrench orally into her beak.

No pasty butt. I just gave her a couple of drops. How long should I try? I want to save her and will keep trying, but it looks so hopeless. :( I don’t want her to suffer.
