Mummy hen took them out day 3 and now they are a week old and think they are full grown chicks
They cheep continuously scratch peck the lot but she won’t sit on them much only at night or 10min an hour ,
There eating and drinking but I think they go quiet when she does sit on them

It’s 13c outside today so I feel they need heat still ? When I brood them I kept heat for 6weeks …I am told to let nature do as intended but worried there not warm enough

They have full wing feathers and are starting neck top feathers

Is this her first batch of chicks?
Yeah she does all the clucks obsessed with them but when they chirp she feeds em and walks around with them she does sit in them in the middle of the yard but she seems to wana get them walking
Her every move is for them she taught every chicken she was boss day 1 and she was bottom of the peck before this
Now she and babies are left alone and acccepted
I was told mum would hang in the brooding area but she wants out has 10mins in the brood and then spends whole day out with them

Went to take pic she is sat on them now how I’d expect lol but yeah most the day she will come stand with the main flock chicks run in round em all jumping n sitting on her back if they chirp she teaches them to scratch or finds them treats

There not allowed to touch big things she tells them off and breaks it up lol
There under her poking heads out atm so can’t get a pic lol

I do have brooder coops and bits about to nest in the main brooder is higher up I have to help them in at night should I try lower her night time coop brooder ?

How high up? Lower might be better. Or put a ramp up to the nest.

Keep in mind that hens have been raising chicks much longer than people have been keeping chickens. She knows more about doing this than we do. As long as the chicks are able to get warm when they need to and get under her at night, they should be fine.
