I got this Barred Rock chick on Monday (3/15) and was told he is 3 days old along with another chick. He had a little redness on his back, but still had all of his chick fuzz. He wasn’t scratching at it.
Yesterday, 3/19, I picked up 8 more chicks and put them in the same brooder box.
They’ve been eating Purina medicated, which has amprolium.
Today I noticed he’s been biting at the red area. We put hen peck on it, but he immediately tried to bite at the hen peck, so I washed him with some warm water to get it off. And the bald spot got even bigger. He’s still running around, playing, drinking and eating.
I separated him because after I put the hen peck on him and the bald spot got bigger, the other chicks started pecking at it.
None of the other chicks are having any issues. I’ve checked for mites or other parasites and don’t see anything.
I checked his butt, as I do daily, and there was some dried poop on there that I wiped off.
Does anyone know of any creams I can put on it? How to make a chick jacket so he’s not biting at it? Or if there’s any oral medications I should try to make sure he isn’t developing something.
