Hi all, two days ago I purchased a chick which has deformed wings. I was wondering what the exact condition is and if anyone has had any luck fixing the wings and could share their experience of how to do it.

There's an abnormal twist at the wrist joint it seems to me and the wind doesn't lie flat against the body and the feathers are sticking towards.

Thank you so much. I'll attach some photos.

Welcome To BYC

You'd have to do some research to hopefully come up with a name for whatever developmental or genetic defect has cause the deformity.

Most defects cannot be corrected or if they are, a skilled Vet would be required.
IF the chick is eating/drinking and seems to thrive for now, I'd just enjoy her at this time and see how everything goes instead of trying to fix/correct anything. You risk damaging the wings further and/or causing pain.

Possible since there's one visible deformity, there may be other internal ones that cannot be seen and the chick fails to thrive or has some other difficulties as they mature and put on weight. Hopefully not, but it's something to just be aware of. Many chickens can adapt and thrive even with some deformities.

I would not, however use this chick for any type of breeding. If it's a rooster, don't use him for fertilizing your flock, enjoy him as a pet. If it's a hen, of course eggs are fine to eat, just don't incubate/hatch any of them.
