Morning all,
Last night I had a few silkies hatch. one has what looks to be a solid lump on its head, and the silkies skin is not dark like the others, instead its pink in some areas. the chick seems to be doing fine, chiping and learning to walk like the rest. She is still in the incubator and I plan to remove her later today. Any ideas? The lump is pretty big, amost the size of her head its self. its smooth and feathery . I hope you can see it from the photos... thanks for your help.

That's normal... some Silkies just have larger ones... It's called a vault.

People refer to it as vaulted skull or something like that, supposed to be a good thing in Silkies

What you have there is a vaulted skull.

I'm pretty sure that there is an opening at the top where the skull does not fully cover the brain, so you must make sure that chicks with vaults must not bump into pointy objects or get picked on. Nice looking silkie chick by the way. Most times chicks with vaulted skulls have larger crests.
