My chicks pecked their siblings toe almost completly off. The claw is not there and its all bloody. Thank God I saw one of the chicks pecking at blood on the side of the brooder. Help, can I put a bandaid on it or will it peel off the skin? I will seperate them if that would help.

yes, separate till healed.... put some betadine or iodine on it and then some gauze and tape bottom and top to make a boot... trim to shape carefully.
I would think about giving them a bit of melon or perahps a peeled apple (remove seeds) to peck on.

They are in an outside fence area right now. The one was so lonely that I put it outside with them but on the opposite side of the fence. I'll check often and won't let the dog out. So make a whole boot and not just a sock for the one toe?

yes...first wash the foot with a disinfectant ... then gause and then two pieces (squares) of tape place foot on tape and then place other square of tape on top of that and press well between the toes and trim to shape to make it easier to walk. If you have them out and if you can get it , using a half a melon as a "bowl" for their feed will keep them ocupied and lessen the the pecking...adding a bit of scrambled egg to their feed might help any deficiencies (methionine)( which might be involved.

OK the chick is doing good, they didn't peck the apple I gave them so I gave it to the adults. Its hot over here so I put them in the shade. Thanks again dlhunicorn.

This chick already had problems with its toe (the exact same one) I just realized. It was all bloody when they all hatched and I guess the other chicks had pecked it. It scabbed over but I guess something must have opened the scab and it bled. Then the chicks pecked at it. When it was scabbed it was nasty.
