I have a 6 weeks old golden laced wayndotte bantam, hen I believe. We got back from vacation Wednesday night to find her almost unable to walk, bobbing her head and with tremors in her tail and feet. No visible signs of trauma. The chick sitter said she hadn’t noticed a problem and couldn’t tell us when it started. We isolated her immediately and started her on electrolytes and probiotics. I have been watching her closely and do not believe it is a problem with her legs but a neurological problem. She has had no contact with other birds except for her brooder mates so I don’t think she could have been exposed to any virus, and no other birds are sick. My question is, is there a chance for improvement or should I end her suffering? And if she could improve, when should I start seeing it?

Too add, she is eating snd drinking and occasionally preening herself.

I had a chick a few year ago hatch with a neurological birth defect. She hatched with a Bobble/Vibrating head. She grew up as normal as the rest of the chicks, but at some point her condition started to progress as she got older. She couldn't keep her balance properly. Her legs worked fine, but she couldn't get her balance.
I managed her condition with vitamins, & she eventually got back on her feet, & walking. At some point I realized this was too much work for me, so I gave her a new home.

Her new owner was doing a great job of letting us know how she was doing, but hasn't talked to us for quite awhile.

I have a rooster who was born with a bobbing head. (Meyer hatchery) "Dizzy"

He still ate fine, and grew fine and is very friendly. He only shows interest in one Welsummer hen, and they are friends with benefits. They just had a baby...

And the baby is normal.

She was perfectly normal before we went on vacation Sunday. Something had to have happened while we were gone. She has been chirping constantly and this morning will occasionally let out a high pitched scream. I’m wondering if it’s not a pain cry or just her looking for her sisters. We tried giving her 1/4 of an aspirin the first day but then I thought that might not be a good idea if she had any internal bleeding or bruising. With it being a possible injury, I just don’t know if she will recover enough to not be picked on by the others.

Try vitamins? Make sure they contain Vitamin E.

Sometimes a brain defect won't show until alittle later. Could also be a brain injury.

We had our vet put her down this morning. She just wasn’t getting any better. Thanks for your comments.
