Newly hatched chick was hatched under broody. He seems strong, but his skin has these strange growths. They may be some kind of abnormally formed feathers??? The strange growths are all over the body, but mostly concentrated on the neck.

There were two broodies on this nest, and both have rejected the chick. Any idea what the are? Are they of concern for long term health? Any chance of getting the mamas to accept it? Must it be raised separate?

Update: They probably are some type of immature or malformed feathers. As they dried, they looked more feather-ish. But they aren't fluffing out like they ought.
