a little while ago we got 2 new chickens for our flock, a gorgeous barbu d'uccle and a younger chick. We kept them in a run, in view but separate from our other hens. We noticed the barbu was sneezing, and that night was making strange breathing sounds. We were going to get her checked out, but she stopped doing it so we thought she was fine.
We began to let them out of the run and into the garden with the other hens. The chick suprisingly got on fine, picked a few fights with our silkies but has otherwise integrated well. The poor barbu d'uccle however was being constantly chased and picked on by our top hen. I thought that the pecking order would sort its way out but 2 days ago she was hiding in a bush. I thought wrongly that she would make her way out but I came back later to find her stuck in the bush still. I managed to untangle her and put her on the floor, and instantly our top hen ran over and pecked at her.
She ran straight under another bush and I again took her out. I thought it would be best to put her in the run away from the others, but I left the door to the run open incase she wanted to come out. There is food and water in the run.
After that she has not left the coop (attached to the run). She just sits there all day. I have not seen her eat or drink but I think she must be. She isn't laying yet so I don't think she's broody. I'm quite concerned because prior to this she was fairly lively.
