I have a sea bright bantam hen. I also have two roosters originally 2 hens. The female now disappears throughout most of the day. She is no longer in the coop when it’s time for bed. She shows up about an hour a day in the morning. She eats and dust baths. Now this is all she is focused on. Like she’s on a mission. She is hurrying up and then ends up disappearing again. She is also acting like she’s a bit wild and she looks puffier. Not sure what is going on with her but it’s strange and my two roosters seem broken hearted when she comes back and essentially tells them to beat it I got stuff to do. Can anyone help explain what’s going on and should I be concerned? Thank you all

Yes, she has a nest someplace. The roosters know where she is. That is how I found my tiny Old English hen when she made a nest in the woods. The rooster would check on her. Or just watch where she goes.

How long has she been doing this? If no predators find her she will show up with some chicks about 21 days from her first overnight away from the coop.

This kind of came to our mind. Was hoping this was it and not some disease! It’s been about a week now! So hopefully nothing gets them and the babies make it!
