I have this indoor pet chicken, and she doesnt mind being indoors. She gets to free range, gets a lot of attention, and is happy that there are no other chickens around actually because she prefers humans over chickens, and even volunteers to get back in her cage sometimes! She really loves it here. But one of the things she does suprisingly, is imitate my sounds, it's definitely not a sound a chicken makes! Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this?

Funny you bring that up...I swear my puppies taught my chickens how to whimper!!! it's very subtle and quiet but sounds just like a whimpering puppy lol

Well, a lot of birds will mimic what they hear. If your bird has never heard another chicken in her life, she may just be trying to fit in with "the flock". I've never heard of a chicken doing this, so maybe this is quite a unique case! On the other hand I'm just one person, maybe all chickens will do this under the right circumstances.

I raise canaries and they can learn to sing the songs of other birds if you train them when they are just out of the moult and coming back into song. In fact it can be a problem; if you are teaching the males to sing and you have one who is a shrieker, you really want to take him somewhere the others can't hear him, because they will all pick it up, unfortunately. Not pleasant to listen to them ALL shrieking.

I have pretty much a similar situation, we have three hens in the house, same, one loves to watch us playing video games, the other plays tag with us. I've heard that it's not good having them indoors but as your chicken our hens prefer indoors. XD

I heard my roo ask his hen, “You want some waaaater?” Yes I would say that to the both of them and they understand what water is, but I swear Gabriel said it the other evening after I poured water for the both of them. I praised him and said very good Gabriel good boy! Okay chickens don’t have the ability like parrots do.. or do they?
I spend a lot
of time with my dinosaurs and I am going to start recording thier chatter. I’m telling you they do understand and mix it in with their own language like Petois
