Hi All! I’ve been raising chickens for years and got into ducks within the past year. I have mixed flocks of ducks and chickens and am enjoying the suburban homesteading lifestyle.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? (2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I first started raising chickens in 2012 and currently have 8 pullets and started raising ducks in 2019 and have 14 including one drake.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Too many to name!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Teaching the kids about sustainability and farm to table living, fresh eggs, and chicken/duck tv!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening and cooking
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have two kids and live in Western Tennessee. I’m in the mental health field and my husband is an engineer. We’re currently on two acres but I’ll always dream of moving to bigger pastures some day.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC back in 2012 when I ordered my first chicks. I have found the support, readily shared knowledge, and expertise from folks on this page to be invaluable!
