Ok, so I don't know if I'm just being melodramatic but this is basically my first time incubating eggs, technically second. So I am at day 5 and I have completely fallen inlove with my eggs, bonding with them etc. I want them to develop very beautiful and thus far I am pleased with the results. Just now I incubated my eggs and I saw that the air sac is very small, about half a thumb nail. I don't have a hygrometer because here where I live it is hard to come by something like that. I have a petri dish with half filled wate, around 20ml. Do u recommend that I decrease or increase the amount of water? Please help. I have grown a special bond with them and thanks!!!

You should refill the dish every 2-3 days about half full. The only way to know if theres a chick in each egg is to candle at day 8 and then again at day 14. The chick should be filling a third of the egg and positioned in the centre. Good luck with your hatch. I just had a chick hatch 2 days ago, the first one from my rooster:D its a beautiful experience to see a chick hatch:)

Thanks very helpful reply. You've told me exactly how much water I should put in and not just if I should increase or decrease. I will remember that the dish should be 1/2!!! Thanks! Other comments would be so much appreciated!

I'm trying my best not to candle very regularly. I candled twice today and will try my best to keep the urge in and candle again saturday on day 7. I'm just planning ahead. During lock down stage, can I open the small window on top of my incubator, just a little bit? The reason for this question is because its a very cheap still aired bator and I don't want the temperature to go too high so that's one way of controlling the temperature???

Do you have a humidity gauge?
remember that the surface area of the water is what gauges the humidity level, not the depth of the water. Of course temp and circulation also play into this.

So, this got me to go home and candle my eggs. I'm on day 14 and my air sacs are about he size of a quarter. Too small? If it is, is there something I can do? I think my humidity was too high (60%, it spiked at 88% yesterday) I removed all water and it is now at 53%. Should I keep dropping it until lockdown?

Wow I didn't know that. What do u think of a glass petri dish? Is the area to large or just right perhaps?
