Chicken anxiety?

whatnow? :

It's better this way. Now you don't have to explain the locked cage attached to the "children's" playhouse!

Since our coop does look like a children's playhouse, and it's right up front next to the house, I often wondered what passing people think when they see the fully enclosed wire run!

i also have "illegal" chickens in my yard. the first day we got them i told my 8 year old daughter that we should not tell anyone we have them but by that afternoon every kid........about 20 of them........in the neighborhood was there to see them. by now all my neighbors know about them and all the kids are over all the time checking them out...........everyone cannot wait for eggs. the only reason i would get caught is if someone complained and called the animal control officer..... but no one is really close enough to be bothered .........a funny story..........last weekend i thought my old cat had finally died. he was lying under some bikes and did not look like he was breathing. even though i am a nurse i am really wierd about dead animals, especially my pets, and i was upset and could not deal with picking up his body so i called my brother to come over and help me out. he, in turn, called the animal control officer so i had to very quickly hide the chickens in the dog's crate in the house. when the animal control officer leaned down to pick up the "dead body" the darn cat jumped up and ran off.............must have scared the you-know-what out of the guy!!!!! anyway, the good news is the cat is fine and the chickens are safe.

Cat's really out of the bag, now. The neighborhood busy body (that not a nice term for someone I'm friendly with, but I can't think of anything better, right now) stopped by to ask about grass and caught me in the side yard with the chickens, today. Funny thing is, you could plainly see the chicken coop construction site and the obvious pop hole on the front, but she still had to ask me where they were going to stay? So far, everyone seems to be fairly interested after they share the news about the fox that lives across the street. Why didn't they tell me about the fox when it was in season.

My neighbor wants to help design and build the coop!

In fact his daughter told me that her Mom and Dad got in a big fight because he wanted chickens just like my husband!

So, my husband goes to the feed store with my son to pick a couple more and comes home with 8 more.
