About 5 days ago, my Rhode Island Red crossed paths with a hawk. She sustained injuries from the talons to her back. I took her to my work (a wildlife rahabilitation center) ad she was bandaged up and given some antibiotics. The wounds are healing well, and looking improved; albeit the odd coloring of the bruises. Last night I set her up in a makeshift coop, close to the flock in hopes she may lay an egg. She hasn't layed since the incident, and I'm wondering if the stress from the extreme injuries could cause a delay, and if so for how long? I'm concerned about when I should worry about being eggbound. Her behavior is otherwise good, bright eyes, tail is up, and eager to go forage with her sisters. She is yet to get up and down the ramp of her main coop, plus her wounds are open (bandaged with tagaderm) so I'm also nervous to put her in there at night, I don't want the others pecking her! Any advice or ideas?

she sounds like she is doing ok as far as her wounds are going. And yes the other chickens will most likely peck her wounds because they are attracted to red color. Mine had wounds once and they pecked her even after it scabbed over so I would wait until you let her roost with them again. And when a hawk attempted to kill my chickens they layed eggs THAT DAY!! I was surprised they werent nervous or scared. You sound like you have done a good job caring and healing her !! great job!!!

I gave her the warm bath treatment, just in case she's egg bound- maybe i'm just being paranoid. I guess I'll keep an eye out for any bulging or other signs of distress. How hard would the egg be if I was feeling for it? When I feel her abdomen, and what seems like a bulge(not sure because I trimmed her feathers) it just feels like soft tissue. And she doesn't show any signs of discomfort. I've heard that they can go up to a month without laying dudes to stress. I guess the fact she just moved here 2 weeks ago doesn't help!!
