Aloha all,
My girl Goldie was attacked by a mongoose yesterday. Initially her injuries seemed minor. Some abrasions on the back of her head and wing. I treated them with povidone iodine and antibiotic cream. She had blood in her mouth and I was initially worried that the mongoose got her tongue. Today with more observation, I see her tongue but it's not moving and the area around her tongue seems swollen. She also has a bit of a bad smell - not yeasty; it smells a little like decay. She's not eating or drinking. I'm wondering if she got an infection from the mongoose. They are nasty creatures and eat all kinds of disgusting things. My question is: can you put antibiotic ointment inside of a chicken's mouth? Or can some kind of antibiotic be used safely if she has an infection?
