Our two year old Columbian was attacked on Thursday night. We thought she was dead, but we found her wandering around later Friday afternoon. Her wing is down (possibly broken?) and she has a hole in her side (see pics below). There is no smell or puss in the area.
We applied some Polysporin, kept her inside overnight, and returned her to the yard (out of the general run) this morning to get some fresh air and walk about. She is eating, drinking, and walking fine. She is obviously happier outside, but we are concerned about her injury becoming infected or fly blown. She is also our only broody hen, and was laying on her clutch when she was attacked. When we put her outside, she went back to it and laid down (when we thought she was gone, we removed the eggs and they are inside under a lamp).
I have contacted a local poultry vet but have not heard back yet. Is there anything we should be doing in the meantime? We don't want to lose her.
Thanks.
