Got bored and decided to come up with another scratch feed toy for my flock. Have been using one of the lil roundish coke bottles, but its small, and gets dents all the time. Dont get me wrong, it worked and for sure helped keep them occupied, just thought there might be a better option. Since my son no longer has a hamster, i dug through his cage supplies and found a running ball. Its about 5" in diameter. Has a sliding lid which i will pop a zip tie on to make sure it stays closed. The ball had lil grooves/channels made into it, but were to narrow for most scratch to come through. I drilled a hole at each end of each slot with 4 of them being a bit larger for those larger pieces of corn. I think i have about the right amount of holes to let just enough feed out to occupy them, with a lil pecking and scratching. Im sure im not the 1st to do this, but figured i would throw it out there.

Forgot to mention, i did glue the ball together with some PVC glue, as this one "snapped" together, but still had the slider lid to fill with.

Well, i'll find out later how good it holds up to weather & chickens, for now its doing good. My speckled sussex won the prize for 1st one to roll it to get the treats..Black Star took 2nd place...While my biggest Brahma acted like she was to good to scrounge for feed.....You are right about the sloped terrain, fortunately mine is pretty flat. Might have to hang something by a nylon cord, where they could peck at it...
