idk man, no clue
Picked up one of my girls today and saw this, anyone know what it could be caused by? She is about second on the pecking order, and bigger than the other chickens, so i assumed obesity, but she’s not really that large after i compared her. it’s not on any of my other girls though.

My girl plucks out her feathers from her under belly when she's broody. Is your girl spending too much time on the nest?

not quite sure, i know that everyone is laying regularly so it’s definitely a possibility. my two australorps are pretty prolific layers and i see them in there all the time so that might be why. thanks!

You're welcome. I have a Marans that sits in the nest and stops laying eggs while she does this. She steals the other girls eggs to sit on. Her belly is bare because she wants her body closer to the eggs to keep them warm. I hope that's what's going on and nothing else. I don't have a rooster so she will be sitting a long long time. Lol

Looks like what my girl has. Thinking she's doing a hard molt and the air and sun is causing irritation.
