I had a prior post on this, but one of my 3 oldest hens is becoming more delayed in her speed and reaction compared to the rest of the flock. She is a red sex link and will be 4 in November or December. She seems to drink normally, she does nibble at food, as well as looking healthy. Overall no visual issues at first inspection, but her crop feels harder and tighter compared to the other hens. She has had crop issues in the past, but I’m not sure if she has the same issues. She was just recently huddled close to the run with both eyes completely closed. The rest of the flock is healthy. What should I do?

Her crop appears enlarged in the picture. How does it feel in early morning before she eats or drinks? Does she lay eggs, and are they normal? You might try offering her some chilled coconut oil cut into small pieces for her to peck, about a tsp per day. Massage her crop several times a day if it is hard or doughy. What are her poops like? What are you feeding? I would offer some wet chicken feed and a bit of cooked egg. Electrolytes or Poultry NutriDrench might be good.

Her crop stays tight. She was a very good egg later, with so many chickens now it’s hard to keep track. I’ll try to give some supplements to try to break down whatever is inside her crop. Her poop is a normal white and brown mixture. I feed my chickens 16% chicken protein pellets with two cups of scratch every day. They are given garden and table scraps (those that are healthy for them and can digest easily), and whatever they free range. I’ll try to give her some sort of energy boost to your direction.
